Sponsorship Request

May 12, 2014

Dear Friend,

B Stigma-Free is collaborating with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Fairfield and hosting an essay contest for New Haven and Fairfield County residents from 6th grade through adulthood to raise awareness of and compassion for people who are stigmatized because of a difference. We are hoping that you will lend your support to this important event!

B Stigma-Free works to eliminate the stigma experienced by people identifying with various groups: people with a mental illness, those who have a traumatic brain injury (TBI), or a child meeting the challenges of an autistic spectrum disorder. Maybe a friend or neighbor has shared his experience with depression, or you know someone who is gay or transgender who has been discriminated against.

This year’s contest theme, “Eliminating Stigma, One Story at a Time,” encourages writers to share their feelings about how they have been affected by stigma, or how they’ve been touched by acts of kindness. Essays will be judged on the ability to motivate action or inspire change; creativity and originality; and writing quality. Essays will be judged in three categories:

Middle School Students (grades 6-8)

High School Students (grades 9-12)

Adults (18+)

The winning essays will be recognized at a ceremony on June 4, 2014, as part of our ongoing effort to promote messages of hope and support, encourage positive attitudes, and dispel myths and stereotypes that cause stigma.

We are asking local businesses to support this community awareness campaign by making a donation that can be awarded to winning essayists. A donation from your establishment would be a wonderful way to celebrate an author’s effort to raise understanding, nurture compassion, inspire change and end the stigma that many experience!

In return, we can offer your organization promotion through B Stigma-Free’s Southern Connecticut Alliance, and inclusion in promotional materials, but the most we can offer is the appreciation of your family, friends and neighbors who have been stigmatized. Please see sponsor donation form here.

Thank you so much for your kind consideration of our request!  We look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Loretta Jay
