How to Feel Better by Carol Kilham

I’m so glad for this contest on stories about mental illness. My suggestion for feeling better emotionally is easy for anyone to do in order to keep the mental illness at a low level.

When feeling not good or just plain awful, one can have more control in the healing process. You will survive and start feeling better in three to four days. One needs to stay with the current medication and not start taking any new meds. Make sure your doctor knows what meds you are taking before you noticed paranoia or another kind of mental illness.

So, #1 is recognizing the problem. Then, #2, go to see the doctor during this stressful time. For #3, get off all caffeine and sugar that is put in food. You may find it hard just getting started. During this time you need firm support from friends and family besides your doctor. Be strict with your self-discipline in cutting out all caffeine and all sugar. Just switching to decaffeinated coffee will not help NO COFFEE and NO SUGAR items at all. Warning: You might get a headache when you give up coffee, so take some Tylenol. DON’T FORGET TO BE STRICT WITH YOUR REGIMEN FOR RECOVERY AND YOU WILL START GETTING TO FEEL BETTER AND BETTER, once and for all. Be sure to tell your friends about this new discovery that works, works, works.
